Antigone Thing

Antigone Moral: Does it Still Apply to Us Today?

At the end of Antigone,  Choragos had quoted:
“There is no happiness where there is no wisdom;

No wisdom but in submission to the gods.

Big words are always punished,

And proud men in old age learn to be wise.”

            To know whether or not this applies to us you have to, of course know what it means. His statement means that where no one is happy, there is no intelligence or knowledge. For example you fail your test and your sad because you didn't know anything. Now lets say you knew everything and got 100%, wouldn't you be happy? The second line meaning you aren't smart if you don't bow down to those with the power. Like obeying your elders or your boss at work. Big words are always punished means  that is you talk big you would be set in your place. Many people would disagree with this because nowadays we have the freedom of speech. So we can talk big all we want as long as we aren't violent or offending others. The final line means even those who are completely headstrong will learn to be wise with age. Meaning those people will gain life experience which allows them to act better and treat others in a different regard. Creon was the complete opposite of these. He was stubborn believing all he said was the law. In the end it cost him his family and all he treasured. After he lost everything he saw his mistakes. This would apply to us in modern times. i am pretty sure it wont happen in the same scenario, but this can work for those who quit their jobs on a whim. You know those people who get a job and quit within the week because they aren't good at it? I think that's a prime example of having no happiness because of lack of knowledge.
