BioShock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite

Background
Bioshock is a First person shooter series highly focused on a large variety of ways to combat a situation. It was developed by Irrational games and published by 2K games. To all those readers hoping for a relation to Bioshock 2 you can have your hopes crushed as this games has no relation. In fact it might even make for a better setting than the two previous games! Like previous games it revolves around using a ton of guns and magic powers to crush your foes. You play as Booker DeWitt trying to clear a past debt by kidnapping and delivering a girl to some mysterious people but finds out shocking truths and developments as the story progresses.

Specs Required
Minimum Specs
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel®Core 2 Duo E4600 or Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+
Ram: 2 GB
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 340 or Raedon HD 3800 series

Recommended Specs
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Athlon II X4 610e
Ram: 4 GB
Video Card: Radeon HD 6950 or Nividia GeForce GTX 560

My Opinion
Bioshock infinite is truly a breathtaking game. The starting introduces you to Booker DeWitt and his past debt. Then you must scale a lighthouse to find your object but you find nothing there? You ring the bells in the order described on the wall and all of a sudden a chair comes out of the ground? Suspicious...? All of a sudden red lights glow in the sky and world shakes as the bells keep ringing. Finally a door opens leading you into the chamber with the chair. You sit on it, it lock you in and you're rocketed into the Sky onto the Flying City of Columbia. Insane amounts of detail are put into the two minutes of you flying through the air in the rocket. details hones down to lines on the sidewalk to children playing in the streets with blimps flying overhead.
The gameplay itself is as crazy as first person shooters get. You slide on these rails called Skylines and dont stop moving until you die! The amount of weapons and upgrades are overwhelming as new weapons are introduced every chapter as well as new enemies and abilities The way you use these is your ticket to succes.

Where to get it!
Yes it is available on Steam costing around $40-$60
Available on Amazon and the price is around $50

Warframe

WarFrame

Game Play
WarFrame is a third person shooter based in space. Due to its characters called the Tenno looking like ninjas, the game has been called Ninjas in Space in some instances. Although you can't disagree with it if you have played the game. As for the enemies you encounter three factions as well as mutations called infested.
Each faction is weak to different forms of attacks and abilities making it hard for someone to stick to one character and be the best everywhere. The game itself is very different from other FPS because it focuses PvE instead of the common PvP FPS's on the market. In this players work together to complete missions to obtain the rewards. The item system in this game is also very different.
In this you must run missions and collect materials in them and assemble them in your "Foundry" to make an item. As you can see you must also wait a certain amount of time or you can rush the building with the currency called Platinum. WarFrame features a wide variety of characters to play all with a unique theme and abilities for each. Although obtaining one through free means takes quite a while. Another reason that this game is popular is because everything can be obtained through gameplay so instead of Pay to win its a Play to win game.

Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter X Tekken

Background
Two long standing side scrolling fighters, have come together in an anniversary game. Street Fighter X Tekken with all of the main character from each series to brawl it out in a cross game fighter! The series was developed by Capcom and Namco. These long standing series were worked into a crossover fighting game focusing on the fighting aspects of Street Fighter such as Hadoken.

Specs Required
Minimum Specs
Processor: 1.8 GHz Intel®Core 2 Duo E4300 or Athlon X2 250u
Ram: 1 GB
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT or Raedon X1600

Recommended Specs
Processor: Intel Core E6750 or AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5800+
Ram: 2 GB
Video Card: Radeon HD 3850 or Nividia GeoForce 8800 G S

My Opinion
Being a seasoned veteran to both games series i leapt right in to the fray. Only to have my character's be beaten at world record speeds. The creators sure put emphasis from harder to hardest. On my second try i decided to take more caution and look through my character option instead of picking Ryu and Kazuya off the bat.

Not Every character from both games is available due to licensing issues. The storyline is based around an object called pandora and the worlds strongest fighters are fighting to reach it. The story varies depending on whether you pick a pair of characters or random ones to fight your way to the top with. Also for being a 2-D fighting games there is a lot of customizability as equipping gems to change your stats is possible. My favorite part is the difficulty of "Hardest" as the opponents block almost every and any move timely making it near impossible to land an attack. This really makes you get better as you find ways to get around defences through rigorous defeats!

Where to get it!
No it is not available on Steam and probably will not be in the near future!
Available on Amazon and the price varies greatly depending on whether or not its used  or new.

Heroes of Might and Magic VI

Heroes of Might and Magic VI

Background
Heroes of Might and Magic VI is a Sequel to HOM V and is of course another RTS or turn based strategy Game. It was made by Black Hole Game Studios and released by Ubisoft. Most of the game is handled by an Online server to ensure secure gameplay and help immerse players in a more detailed experience. Through this online server they added new ways a player can use a character to their fullest but ill get to that later.

Specs Required
HOM VI Windows Requirements
OS: Windows XP x32
Processor: Core 2 Duo E 4400 2.0 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
Disc Space: 8 GB
Video Card: Nividia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB

My Opinion
This game had progressed far from its humble beginnings as a 2-D RTS which was move and attack. Each installment has brought something new and unique only to this series of RTS. When i first started it the opening Cinematic reminded me of all the warring factions in this series and i prepared for insane odds. The tutorial thoroughly covers every aspect of the game but is very draining on a person attention span. About half way through i was finding myself praying for the restrictions to be lifted but still it was very informative. Many new systems had been applied such as the Blood and Tears System.
Through this system any spell cast or actions made take you down a certain path. Each one with its benefits and disadvantages varying from character to character. The Blood path focuses on offense regardless of unit losses resulting in many head on conflicts. While Tear is troop preservation while inflicting as much damage as possible. This allows the player to carefully manage how their character will develop.
Next there is the new Conflux System allowing players to connect online for benefits and powerful items to be used in matches called Dynasty Weapons. You need to connect online and level up the item to unlock new benefits and powers to be used in battle. There also also the numerous new spells available as well as the anticipated New Races to come.

Where to get it!
Yes it is available on steam with the price between $20-$40 and constantly changing as sales increase.
Available on Amazon as well if you want a Disc but around 40$ - 60$ because of the still high sell rate

Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3

Background
Far Cry 3 is an Open-World FPS with mixed elements of an RPG. The game was Designed mostly by Ubisoft's Montreal and worked with its other branches such as Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Massive. It was published for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC as the sequel to Far Cry 2. This game has an Open-World map roughly ten times the size of its predecessors. The combat varies from charging in guns blazing to stealthy takedowns. The main character of the game is Jason Brody who was kidnapped by mercenaries and pirates after sky diving with friends on vacation.

Specs Required
Minimum Specs
Processor: 2.66GHZ Intel®Core 2 Duo E6700 or 3.00 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Ram: 4 GB
Video Card: 512 MB DirectX 9.0-compliant card with shader model 4.0 or higher

Recommended Specs
Processor: Intel Core i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X2 565 or better
Ram: 6 GB
Video Card: 1024 MB DirectX 11-compliant card with Shader model 4.0 or higher

My Opinion
I had never played any of its predecessors so I was skeptical to buy it. Although i had 60$ to blow so i went ahead and did it! I started off watching the prelude and following Grant Brody. I was paying a lot of attention to the great graphics as they were honed down to a pebble. The ground had a large amount of detail and the mercenaries looked menacing. The shock during the prelude had me hooked as i found myself running to live in the jungle. To my surprise I was quickly reeled in by the story and found my self chased by a bear and terrorists all at once! After continuing on for a bit i was brought the the first town, Amanaki Town to meet the tribal people of the Island, The Rakyat. They quickly inducted Jason into their ranks upon learning of his situation and introduced him to life in Rook Island. It did take quite a while to get into the actual combat though. Though when it did it was exhilarating, the tutorials were very instructional on how to silently dispatch your foes and hide their bodies heh. I loved how many different ways there were to kill a single opponent i spent more time deciding how then actually dispatching them. The customizability of the weapons were very concise making you feel like you got the best out of you weapons and the skills are specifically split into multiple categories. This is a benchmark game raising the stakes for all other videos games of its kind.

Where to get it!
Yes it is available on steam with the price between $50-$60 and may be reduced during sales event on holidays.
Available on Amazon as well if you want a CD at a higher price.

DOTA 2

DOTA 2: Defence of the Ancients
DOTA's started up as an Add-on for the popular game of WarCraft 3 and was categorized as a "moba". It is played on one map where the point on the game is to push a lane to the opponents Ancient and destroy it. Along the way are towers that deal increasing amounts of damages the closer you get to the opponents base.
A Radiant tower to the left and a Dire tower to the right
As you progress throughout the game you must also buy items to enhance your characters playability that every player learn to vary depending on who your enemy has chosen.

There are many other implications to the game that must be discovered by the person playing in order for them to make any sense. I could list all of the concepts like any other tutorial but I believe it is better for the player to learn the concepts themselves through experience. Sadly unlike most games the community is lacking in proper respect for players and as such other players treat those who do not meet their standards very harshly.

There are many reasons why many players find DOTA to be the best moba. First it is because unlike other moba's you cannot pay to increase your chances of winning. The only concept of the game that includes money is DOTA's cosmetics that allow players to make their character look unique and can be traded enhancing the community experience.
A Screen shot of one of my friends DOTA profile
Also their are different modes you can play that require players to be skilled with all heros instead of using only one. A common comparison of DOTA to other moba's is that they have all of there characters available to play with no cost.

DOTA 2 is currently in closed Beta but if you wish to enter you can either recive an invite from players currently playing or got to http://blog.dota2.com/ and sign up for a free invite. Remember, this game is owned by  Valve so you have a guarantee that your gaming experience can be enhanced by inputting your own opinions and ideas in the steam workshop!

Vindictus

Vindictus

Introduction
Vindictus is an MMORPG known for its focus on realistic combat and physics. It was developed by pushing the Source Engine to its limits. The game is designed to allow unprecedented interaction with the environment in dungeons. Players can pick up and use many objects seen lying around but ill get to that more in a second.
The game was developed by Devcat and published by Nexon. The game runs in multiple countries including Korea, Europe, Canada, The United States and a few others. This is one the few games  that gamer's have all played. This is no surprise because of the addicting combat which is highly physics reliant and what you see is just the tip of the iceberg.

Selling Points
This game is unlike other MMOPRG's of its genre when the way the character attacks does not feel or look unnatural. This games combat system is all about combo's and the way you dodge attacks. The main selling point about its combat is feel it gives the player. When a character attacks, it doesn't unnaturally swing its sword and not move at all, the character follows through with that attack moving quite accurately and lands a satisfying blow. Play the video below to see how the combat looks in the game's tutorial.

Some keys things to point out:
Attacks must be timed accordingly to land blows meaning you cannot spam to win and critical hits are landed based on how well your attacks are timed. You can also pick up any objects you see in the environment or a defeated enemies corpse to bash on your remaining opponents heads! Their are also numerous events occurring on a monthly basis as you can see in the video a football appeared and the player must fulfill certain requirements to receive a reward. A personal favorite of mine si the fact that the characters feet actually touch the ground and when you run your motions carry over so you don't stop instantly when you let go but you drift.

The next selling point is the "HIGH" customizablility character interface. I do not believe I can put enough emphasis on the amount of detail you can edit on your character making it hard for me to see how any two characters in the game are 100% identical. As you can view in the Video below you can edit any detail you could think possible and you probably can even get your character to look your real life self!

Note: This is a character creation menu for the character Fiona one out the possible 6 characters you can choose to play as of March 2013.

The last selling point would of Course be its amazing GRAPHICS!!! Besides the amazing character interface there are multiple kinds of areas and monsters to fight. Then there are the GIGANTIC 32 person bosses where the boss is always a stunning monster of insane size! Shown below is a Dragon named Beokros and remarkably that is how it actually looks like in game!

The Characters
The characters are all focused on specific categories and work well with eachother. They are:
  1. Evie
  2. Fiona
  3. Lann
  4. Karok
  5. Vella
  6. Kai
